Sister Love

I found these pictures that the girls must have taken without me knowing on my camera this morning.  They made me smile :-)

My Girls

I noticed, looking back, that I haven't mentioned Brooke or put any pictures of her lately...that's because she's hardly been home!!! It's definitely been different this summer, being a teen and starting high school definitely comes with lots of changes and things to do :-) She's been working (at Uncle Bill's concession stand), taking driver's ed, going to cheer practices, spending time up at Grammy & Papa's, shopping with Maamaw (or anyone else that will take her :-), and hanging out with lots of friends. Even her friendships have changed this summer, sadly her best friend of 8 years decided earlier this year to start pulling away from Brooke and after holding on for several months, Brooke finally decided that she was tired of being treated badly and working single handed to keep the friendship together so she chose to move on and focus on some other friendships. Definitely a stressful time but I've been very proud of Brooke this summer, I have witnessed her growing into a very responsible, strong, thoughtful and mature young lady...someone I'm proud to call my daughter. She's still a teen girl and likes to give this mama a hard time and test her limits but even that is easier to look past when I see her on the right track!

After being gone for most of the week working and spending time with friends, Brooke came home yesterday and spent a great deal of the day playing with Lexy (who has no voice right now). Lexy loved having her big sister home to spend time with...


The "family" they were playing with had 10 kids!!! Are they trying to tell us something? :-)

Twins

Mike was saying goodbye to the girls this morning when he started laughing and called them both out of their rooms to have me (and them) look at something. This is what we saw...


No planning, just two sisters thinking alike this morning :-) I LOVE THOSE GIRLS!

Snow Play

We have had a lot more snow than normal this year but the girls really haven't gotten to enjoy it b/c it's been too cold to play outside. Yesterday after school Lexy begged Brooke to play in the snow with her and the great big sister that Brooke is, she did. They attempted to make a snowman but the snow wasn't packing well enough but they had a great time throwing snowballs at each other and chasing each other around the yard :-) Afterwards they enjoyed the cocoa and fresh baked cookies that I had waiting for them.

Twos-day

These two girls make my "Twos-day" wonderful! Brooke and Lexy were playing together one afternoon and decided to "do" each others hair and make up. Lexy was done with Brooke and Brooke was getting ready to make Lexy beautiful! I love catching these moments between my girls! As a child I used to wish I had a sister to do this kind of stuff with since my brothers weren't really willing participants :-)

I went back looking for a picture of the girls swimming from the past for today to see how much they've changed. This was taken on our vacation in Wichita, I love looking back on our fun times!

The FUN of the day

Here's some pics of Lexy's day of surgery. Not sure you'll be able to read the small print so one of the cute things Lexy did was...when waking up she was very concerned about her sock being off (they had a monitor on her toe) and kept asking us to put her sock on. When the nurse finally took the monitor off and Brooke was able to put Lexy's sock on Lexy said "thank you Sissy, I love you" like Brooke had done something wonderful!

I love this picture of the girls! Back when they didn't argue and still loved on each other all the time. Brooke was so thrilled to have a little sister that she could dress up just like her...Lexy would never let that happen now!!

In other news...

Lexy's eye muscle surgery is scheduled for 8:45am on Friday. If you think of it, please say a prayer that everything will go smoothly!

We had an inspection on our furnace today: the bad news is there is a crack in some vital part, the good news is that we think we will qualify to get a brand new one paid for by Eckan...I'm considering this as my part of the stimulus package!

We got our taxes done today and we will get a refund...of course who knows when the state refund will come since it took a load of paperwork and until Dec. to get last years...all because we used the adoption tax credit, ugh!

Cheer night

Brooke cheered at her first boys basketball game last night. They did great! From my standpoint it was much better to sit in a gym to watch than outside at the football games!!! Lexy was bored and didn't care for all the buzzing of the buzzer but every time Brooke cheered Lexy would yell "go Brooke or go Trojans"...I'm so happy with her progress in learning how supporting her sissy is fun!

The crazy girls

To start off I'll give you something to laugh about...this is Brooke "trying" to set herself free from the sweatshirt monster!! She eventually won the battle but the shirt sure gave her quite a fight!

Lexy asked to get her own gift for Brooke so we went to Wal-Mart and she chose Brooke's gift and then wanted to wrap it "all by herself". Brooke already has bought Lexy's gift. Now that is sisterly love!

Lexy had her preschool winter party today. They were all so cute and excited (and wild!!). Lexy made gift bags for her friends/classmates...

One of the other mothers brought a craft for them to do, aren't these cute using their hands and feet?!!!...

And here they are all wild and crazy!...

We're hoping to spend the weekend (weather permitting) with Papa & Grammy. There's a play that I think the girls would enjoy that we could go see on Saturday and we haven't had a chance to go to the the drive-thru lights display yet this year so that would be a fun time for all!

FINALLY I'm feeling a little better!!! I've still been up most of every night coughing but at least I feel decent during the day. Now let's all say a collective prayer that Mike and Lexy keep the sickies away so that we can all enjoy Thanksgiving!

We didn't have much "family fun" this weekend because mama couldn't get her sick butt up off the couch! BTW, thank you Mike for keeping us all fed, the house cleaned and for not putting my lazy, sick, grumpy butt out on the curb for the trash men this weekend!!

Saturday evening my poor girls got so bored that they went out to the playroom together to play (instead of fight). This video is what I caught when I snuck out to see what they were doing...

Then they wanted me to take a picture of them...

Then after awhile Brooke and Lexy came in and said that they had made up their own dance and wanted me to video it...how cute is this!!!!

Yep, strep!!

Lexy got home from preschool yesterday and asked if she could make Brooke a get better card. She got out her paper, her special sparkly cat & dog stickers and markers and went to work. She sounded out most of the words (wow, at only 4!) and only asked for my help a couple of times and she very thoughtfully picked each of the stickers that she put on with care. About 30 min. later she was done and very proud of herself. She took the card (along with a couple of chocolates) into Brooke and blew her a kiss (she doesn't want to get sick) before leaving.

After a trip to the doctor yesterday afternoon and a swab down the throat, Brooke was given the diagnosis of strep throat...for the millionth time!!! Off we went to Wal-Mart to pick up her antibiotics. I hadn't gotten a chance to do our grocery shopping on Sunday so I figured I might as well do that while we waited for the prescription to be filled. When we finished getting groceries (at least 45 min. later) we went to collect the prescription and we were told "oh that hasn't been started yet, I'll put it to the front of the line it should ONLY be another 10 min. or so". One very sick, grumpy kiddo, one hyper, bored kiddo and 25 min. later we got our prescription and could finally leave!

I'm not feeling SO great today but unless my dr's office will send in a prescription without seeing me I don't know what I'll do. Actually I'm more concerned about Lexy, while she's feeling ok right now we will be in BIG trouble if she starts getting sick after today since the kids' doctors office will be closed from Wed. to Mon. this week. They so kindly told us that if we needed a doctor during that time we would have to go to the children's hospital clinic (45 min. away)!
